It's so nice to be appreciated... kind of
Feb. 13th, 2007 03:43 pm [Yes, I know I'm ranting on about mail at the moment; my nearest and dearest are copping it too, the poor things. Oh well, there are worse places to have one's ego bound up than in one's work. I think.]
So, the IT security manager based in Brisbane blessed us with his presence this morning. He wandered up to my supervisor (ahem? I am the technical authority for the mail system, and I was sitting right there) and said, "So, has the new gateway been fully implemented yet?" On being assured that it was, all bar some internal stuff, he goes, "Oh really? I was expecting some more obvious improvements in the amount of spam getting through to me."
I stopped ignoring him at that point and endeavoured to suss out exactly what was getting through. It turns out that there are at least 3-4 spam messages showing up in his inbox a day, although he was averaging over 30 a day a couple of weeks ago. Gee, I dunno, bloody piss-poor effort that 90% spam reduction, eh? The bloody mail staff should pull their goddamn fingers out.
(FWIW, the few that are slipping through are the ones that traversed my checks by being from valid domains/senders, and which also passed through the antispam engine by containing innocuous text with those advertorial inline image attachments)
