Jan. 14th, 2008 10:31 pmIt's very bad, because I found a whole stash of Fleetwood Mac stuff there. Yes, I was listening to the cool pre-indie, queer/feminist kiwi, roots reggae, post-punk, ska, electro-clash and early techno stuff then (I think I wore out the grooves in my Cure LPs, not to mention Depeche Mode and New Order), but as uncool as it was, Fleetwood Mac was the soundtrack of my emo moments in my mid-teens. It may have had something to do with the fact it was excellent to listen to while stoned. And, hey, Stevie Nicks is one of the few female artists I can sing along to (when she's in her lower range)... in private.
More music-shopping in my future, methinks. Oh, and while I'm on the topic of 80's music, there's a bit of Berlin around too, including Sex..., which vid I hadn't seen before, yay!, and The Metro... so cool. I'll have to go out and get Pleasure Victim again, because I don't recall a bad song on it. Oooh, while we're on general coolness, this version of Tainted Love has crap sound, but Marc Almond is camping it up. While we're on the topic of gay gay gay (since we're not just doing men wearing makeup), dear old Jimmy (I totally wore out my tape of Age of Consent), and we can't really leave out Pete Burns or Sylvester. And Frankie Goes to Hollywood with the uncut version of Relax with the cute leathermen. How did they get away with it? I still think The Power of Love is a fantastic song (despite the peculiar vid) - I'm so schmaltzy.
You know, I got introduced to wimmin's (blech) music (oogh!) by 86/87, and it totally did not substitute for pumping Roland 808s (and, er, other stuff). Thank god for camp and/or makeup-wearing men (even the straight ones) back then. ...Speaking of the straight ones, ok, I did like one Duranie song: Wild Boys. Yes, dunk Mr Le Bonbon again! And again! Shame there's no tentacles, although the lamprey things are fun. (I like the key it's sung in as well, ok?)
Stevie Nicks to Simon Le Bon via Frankie Goes to Hollywood. That sounds about right.
