More YouTubeness
Jan. 29th, 2008 10:14 pmSee, not only can I find interesting docos, tai chi and 80s vids, there are some tracks from genres which I don't grok generally, I may have heard a few tracks from something that sounds good, but I haven't heard enough of them to actually go out and buy (ok, there are some albums I buy from hearing one or two tracks, but not everyone is Massive Attack, PJ Harvey, Radiohead or Roni Size). Anyways, metal is one of those genres, but I found Type O Negative when I did a search! Eeeee!
I heard one of their albums in the mid 90s (a colleague had it), but I never knew what it was. It turns out to have been called Bloody Kisses. And had tracks called things like Christian Woman (I looooved the lyrics, heh) and Black No. 1 (great tune, and best lyric: "loving you was like loving the dead"). Then there is the best evah cover of Seals and Crofts' Summer Breeze (slideshow to the track, alas). Just fab.
I love the humour of it all, and it doesn't hurt I like the lead singer's voice. Also, the drumming is often a bit different to the usual metal style - different intervals work for me. :-)
I'll have to search out some real punk tracks I like (I like quite a lot of post-punk, but not so much the classic stuff). I suppose this is one of the advantages of being able to buy music online - I wouldn't buy many entire metal or punk albums (although I could make an exception for Bloody Kisses), or even the "best of 80s punk" compilations, but we can make our own compilations. Yay!
PS. The reason I remembered Type O Neg's name to search it is that it's my own blood type. I've got a donation coming up this week (unless I get knocked back again.
