"Proton-pump inhibitor" drugs are more effective than antacids -- they reduce the production of the acid. I've been on one called lansoprazole (brand name Zoton) for a few years now, it's made a big difference. And this isn't just a matter of comfort; long-term reflux increases cancer risk.
