  1. belgian beer:
Simple really, Belgian Beer is consistently the best in the world. Chimay Bleu is my utter favourite beer. So far. And it's a good excuse to visit Belgium and eat chocolate and gaufres.
  2. diana wynne jones:
My favourite kids' fiction and fantasy writer. She has a fantastic sense of humour, great characterisations (drawn with a broad brush to be sure), and great stories. Who needs Terry Pratchett?
  3. firefly:
The only sci-fi TV programme that I've ever enjoyed (well, other than Doctor Who). It had characters who seemed real and who interacted convincingly. No stupid aliens or crappy effects. Clever.
  4. girl on girl:
...um, obvious, really. But it is very very very hard to find good smut that has girl action. Unless you're into the shaven pubes and pneumatic breasts (if your own are on the large side, it really isn't a novelty. Honest) that grace most so-called lez fic.
  5. libraries:
I love libraries. Other than mum's Mills and Boons, we were fairly book-challenged in my family, although my mother did try to get them when she could. But when it was about the same price for a second-hand book or a loaf of bread, guess which won? So, libraries have always been my refuge. And that's the nice thing about the internet, it's like a HUGE library.
    Also, librarians are teh hawt.
  6. new zealand history:
I'm a patriotic New Zealander, in the non-flag-waving, non-chauvinistic sense. I think it's the best place in the world (although Maui is running not far behind). It's important to know your history, and that of your country is essential.
  7. portishead:
One of my all-time fave bands. Also Dummy is the album that defines "music to have sex to". I like trip-hop in general, and these guys, with Massive Attack, define the genre.
  8. single malt whiskey:
Yum! Simple. I'm not a hard-core whiskey drinker; I like the sweet Speyside malts, not the peaty Islay kind. But there's nothing like having a nice whisky-and-water while scoffing down a handful of sunflower seeds and reading a groovy book.
  9. the english language:
Not to sound too jingoistic, but it just is the best language, quirks and all. We have SO MANY words, and virtually all of them mean something different, even by the lightest of shadings.
Except when people decide to verbise a noun (ahem) - my pet hate of the moment is "author" instead of "write", as in "he authored the document". GAH! But the nice thing about English is that it's flexible enough to do such horrible things to it, which makes it more dynamic. Also, if you want to learn Germanic or Romance languages, you've got a good leg-up already. Oh, and the fact that if you pronounce a word with more than three syllables with a French accent, it generally IS French! :-)
I just wish some of the spelling could get sorted out. It really is crap.
  10. women:
They look nice, they smell nice, they sound nice, and they taste nice. What else can I say?
(I'm sure the hets in the world can say the same things about men, but I'm biased, ok?)
