Yep, as saluqi mentions, he is the knee-surgery god. Also, the two GPs I've had look at it and the doctor who did the MRI on it were all agreed that surgery is the only way to go. More importantly, I've been dealing with this for three years, and it seems pretty definite that nothing else will work.
Thank you for the words of caution, though. This will be my first ever thing to do with a hospital/surgery, and it's certainly nothing I want to jump into.
