My wee episode a week or so back of chucking up while trying to drive home one evening seems to have heralded a renewal of a problem I had for a year or so while I was living in London - incredible bouts of nausea from just walking around. I couldn't even make the bus on Friday night - merely 5 metres away - since I was too busy trying not to puke.
As it was, it was lucky there was a convenient rubbish bin by the bus stop, because I did have to make brief use of it (and got a very WTF expression from one bloke obviously wondering why be-suited me was so drunk as to be puking at 6pm).
It's vile - l still have the problem when I haven't eaten for hours, but eating and walking briskly (my usual walking speed) is going to bring on some rough moments. Antacids help. I was wondering if I was going to be able to walk home after having lunch up the road today, but chomping on a chewable antacid tablet and sitting to allowing to work for 10 minutes got me home.
I can't help wishing it were more classic heartburn - I'm sure that's horrible, not to mention painful, but it's not so potentially messy. Shouldn't wish for some things, I suppose.
Anyway, I'm going to try a homeopathic remedy for this. There is one that looks pretty damn good, actually, Theridion (made from a spider - isn't homeopathy marvie?):
Mind: Great aversion to professional work. Want of self - confidence. Time passes too quickly. Talkative. Hilarity, Despair. Very joyous, he sings. [Does in the car count?]
Head: Vertigo worse stooping, noise and sound, least movement, on closing eyes, on board a vessel. [I have no desire to get into a boat right now.] Vertigo with nausea and with cold perspiration. Vertigo, together with blindness, caused by pain in the eyes. Vertigo and nausea increased to vomiting.
Headache (especially of women) which always begins with "flickering before the eyes." Headache of women in the climacteric year.
[Don't really get headaches, but I've had a few dull ones this past week.]
Headache worse least noise, least motion of head while lying, in the beginning of every motion, if other walk over the floor, on rising from lying. Headache with throbbing pain. Headache with nausea and vomiting. Headache better from drinking warm water. [Tea?]
Eyes: Flickering before the eyes in frequent paroxysms (with many conditions). On closing eyes, nausea, vomiting and vertigo.
Sensitiveness to light. Double vision.
Stomach and abdomen: Constant desire for food and drink but he knows not for what.
Appetite for acidulous fruits and drinks. [I was actually craving orange juice this afternoon]
Desire for wine, brandy and tobacco.
Nausea worse on closing eyes, on rising in morning, from sounds, from sparkling before eyes, on motion, from talking, from fast riding in a carriage.
Vomiting worse when the eyes are closed.
Inclination to take deep breaths and to sigh.
Sleep: During sleep bits point of tongue. Dreams of journey in distant regions and riding on horses. [I've only ridden on horses twice, so probably not going to do that one.]
Fever: Violent shaking chill with foam at mouth. Sleepy before chill. Cold hands, with flickering before eyes and nausea. Icy sweat on body. Bone pains. Vertigo. Great inclination to be startled. Nausea always increases when he closes his eyes. Talking creates nausea and vomiting. [Can't say I fancy the idea of trying to talk when I'm feeling that crook.]
Aggravation: Least noise. Shrill sounds. Motion (vertigo and nausea). Exertion. Walking. Stooping. Rising. Morning. Evening. Night. Sun. Right side. Left side. Climaxis. Puberty. Talking. Riding in a carriage. On closing eyes (nausea, vomiting). Others walking over the floor (head). While lying. [In terms of the "usual" pukiness when I try to sleep, yes] Touch. Pressure. On ship - board. Ascending. Descending. After washing clothes. Cold. Coition. After stool. Sea - travelling.
Amelioration: From drinking warm water. Warmth. Use: High or highest potencies.
Anyway, I'll give it a go, and we'll see what happens. I've trimmed some of the symptoms that aren't relevant here, but one of the interesting ones was for tremor in the hands. On a practical basis, I did all the testing for ulcers and helicobacter a couple of years ago and found a big fat nothing. I don't want this crap to continue forever, so I'll try a potion first before the doctor again to possibly get a bump up of antacids - I find it annoying enough I have to take something before I try and sleep, and I don't want to be popping pills, even antacids, all day long.

Antacids: I don't so much mind popping the basic calcium stuff, actually: my doctor wasn't too thrilled with my bone mass when we scanned me after the stress fracture, so I was taking a couple a day already. So there is that. Mint tea is also helful, though you'd think it wouldn't be: it doesn't address the reflux qua reflux, but it calms the tubes down and reduces gas, which reduces the pressure on the ... valve isn't the right word, pardon my Aphids. Plus, it's hot, which seems to help some.

If I didn't so dislike mint, I might have given that a go, but I really don't like it. It may have sprung to mind previously if my symptoms were more about "gassy" than pukey, but I don't get urges to burp (or t'other) very much. But yes, hot drinks do seem to help - maybe I could try chamomile and dandelion leaf tea as an alternative. :-)

Date: 2010-06-29 10:18 am (UTC)But the nausea from simply walking around was new, and it frustrates me that it seems to have very little to do with how recently I ate. I also very much dislike popping any kind of pills unless I have to. C'est la vie.
