I'm in the process of reading O: The Intimate History of the Orgasm, which is fairly decent in a popular-science kind of way. However, the author has just characterised virtually all women as being multi-orgasmic, and I must say that's not exactly my experience. I think less than half of the women I've had sex with could do it consistently.

So, with that in mind, I'm desperately curious to see if it's just me. *snicker*

I'm trying to get how you experience it in general - we all have ups and downs and varitions, but I would like an impression of your average kind of responses. Feel free to comment if I've made some terrible omission, or you want to add something. If you don't really want the entire universe to know how you come, I've enabled anonymous commenting. :-)

I must say I'm not really sure in my "no multiple orgasms" answer - I suspect that my experience hasn't been sufficiently varied to be sure in that. *grins*

Yes, it probably does help if you've been around the block a few times, knowing what your usual state of affairs is.

But really, unless you've only slept with one person AND they were exceptionally good or bad, I think you can get a decent impression of yourself on that basis. :-)

Well, it has only been one person :-/ And although he used to be amazing at the fore-play, I doubt he can be judged particularly good. (And that's not even counting the discrepancy in the libidos...) Of course, it's just an estimate, just... I suspect there should be more to what was happening.

Ahah! Well, happy further experimentation when the opportunity arises!

And yes, how your reponsive your partner is can certainly have an extra synergistic effect. I hope you find someone who is honest, sharing and appreciative. :-)

It's an interesting one, isn't it? FWIW, the variety of responses so far is pretty much exactly what I was expecting. :-)

I do like looking at the responses. Interesting that the vast majority rate their orgasms smack dab in the middle, in terms of intensity.

For the first question, I should clarify that I answered "No, but I can orgasm more than once during a sexual session, after some recovery time." - but this does rarely happen for me. It usually happens only if I haven't had an orgasm for a long time prior to this session (and even then it's not guaranteed).

One of the things I avoid doing online is being specific about activities or reactions when it comes to sex. Probably because of that whole risk of being tracked down - so I don't fill in public polls. That I'll talk about the mental side until everyone is bored witless is interesting, but that is usually behind a lock.

Anyway, I have long thought that when it comes to the question of orgasms - multiple and otherwise - that people may be describing the same thing in different ways. You especially see this among the "come on command" crowd in BDSM.

Yep, totally understood about sex specificness online, thus the enabling of anonymous responses on this one.

And yes too about people using different language to describe the same thing. For example, I see here already that some people seem to be able to "recover" quite quickly - I suspect that might come under the category of "multiply orgasmic" according to the book author, even if it doesn't seem that way to the person concerned.

So you did, sorry about that, no idea how I missed that last night.

Heh, buried at the end of a para is not the best place for a "take note" kind of statement. Blame the sub-editor for that one (oooh, that happens to be me). :-)

Woo hoo! I win!!

But does it count as true nerdiness if it's about sex? I got told recently that Torchwood is crap, because us SF geeks don't need to have sex in a story, at all.

No way. I favour nerdy sex statistics over all others, particularly given the way my winter is going. I haven't fallen in with Torchwood yet - like almost all entertainment, I keep putting it off until I can breathe again.

It's totally possible to be a nerd about sex, I offer my "Kinsey π [pi]" badge, made by [livejournal.com profile] baglieg as proof.

The main things which affect my ability to orgasm seem to be medications, some BCs, and my SSRIs make it more difficult to orgasm, and seem to make it less intense when I do.

Bugger, I meant to include medications! I wish they'd enable poll-editing.

I don't really need any recovery time ;)
I'm a consistent multiple-orgasm kind of grrl. It's a lot easier for my grrl to give them to me than me give them to myself. It doesn't feel nearly as good.
