...actually, not really, but I LOL'd.

So, some nutso idiots in the US who feel they can decide what women should do with their bodies are fulminating about a new birth-control pill that stops periods (I imagine it works the same way as if you take the usual pill, but don't stop for the monthly bleed). This blog discussed the whole thing, complete with clips of a tv interview with the loudest nutter fulminating against the feminist "woman-controlling", "baby-hating" cabal that wants to make us all just like men. (In your dreams, love!)

Anyways, in the comments:

my feminist sisters, you’ve been TAKING birth control? i prefer to sharpen the pills, dip them in rattlesnake venom, and fire them directly at small children through a blowgun.

Yeah, us feminists are all about direct action! We're not doing enough for our child-hating agenda! (Ignore all that paid parental leave and subsidised childcare bullshit.) Quick, get those blowguns out now, and strike your blow for The Cause!!1!

I haven't got past 'Tamponic Tears for the Death of True Womanhood'. *dies*

I'm on Depo and I haven't had a period for 18 months. What am I risking? Maybe my tits will fall off next.

Also, lots of people have and do take the pill continuously. That muppet only noticed because a drug company decided there was a spot of extra money to be made with new packaging.

Now, now, *that* was an uncalled-for, unfair comparison.

(Some of us LIKE the Muppets, after all! *g*)

I don't know where I'd be without my blow-gun. It's hooked onto my bike so they can't catch me! As quickly!

Personally, I prefer using a rocket-launcher from my Norton, but I think your way keeps you fitter. ;-)

i'm one of those u.s. citizens who has never been anywhere else, so i have no idea really what people elsewhere think about much of anything, except through the internet.

do our right wing lunatics seem as nutty to you overseas as they seem to us right here?

Worse, probably. At least we don't seem to elect them as often. :-(

i think the u.s. is shorthand for extreme right wing nuttiness in my general social locality (australia). "only in america" is a common saying after relating such an anecdote!

i don't know how nutty you find them compared to elsewhere, but the lulz as well as fascinated horror is definitely experienced from the outside looking in.

May I say I absolutely *adore* your icon?

(It makes me want to make a nametag with that verbiage...and a belt buckle shaped like a chicken.)

I'm actually not sure what exactly the fuss is all about. What's actually NEW, here.

Lots of women have been taking the pill on a continuous basis (just skip the week of placebos and go directly to the next month's package) for a very very long time (just like it's been common knowledge for a generation that one can take a regimen of several BC pills a day for a few days as a perfectly-acceptable "morning after pill".

And about 3 years back, my sweetie [livejournal.com profile] cawingcrow's pills were packaged and marketed as a "one period every three months" variety. Which, yes, she'd sometimes take back-to-back for one period every *six* months.

Not to mention Depo-Provera, and the "period-abuse potential" of the hormone-laced cervical rings a different ex-gf of mine uses, etc....

So I'm a bit confused as to what's so "new" about the pill that's causing all the ruckus. Other than, perhaps, "the right-wing fundie nutbars have NOTICED this one".

Oh, there's nothing new about it at all. Other than the fact that it's now being publically admitted that such a pill regime won't kill you, and, yes, that the fundies have finally noticed.

And also new packaging, so that people will probably have to pay more $$$ for the privelege of using it.
