Someone has done a hilarious blog of "Golden Age" Wonder Woman as an advice columnist. WW has always been surrounded by naughty naughty people, and she has lots of experience in making them behave. I knew there was a reason I was so fascinated by the Golden Lariat when I was a kidlet.
Q: [My best friend from school has remained single, while I'm married] She seems jealous and resentful of my marriage, and angry that she’s still single. Recently, she told me that she saw my husband at a bar kissing another woman, and has demanded that I confront him about it. I don’t believe her, but she says that if I don’t talk to him about it, she’ll break off our friendship! What should I do?
A: [Panel from Golden Age WW strip]: If girls want to be slaves, there's no harm in that. The bad thing is them submitting to a master or to an evil mistress like Paula! A good mistress could do wonders with them!
The rest of the entries are just as frickin' hilarious, and so are the panel selections. Go read them, or I'll have to find a lariat of my own, and maybe some chains and a pole to affix them to (essential items in the WW world).

Date: 2008-01-19 12:56 pm (UTC)William Marston was a psychologist with some rather unusual views about relations between the sexes; I haven't read too much of his original articles, but AFAICT the general idea was that benevolent femdom = road to world peace. Somehow in 1941 he managed to persuade DC that they should let him write a comic for them, and Wonder Woman was born.
I've got one of the collections from the early issues, and it's not just a case of sneaking BDSM themes into the story - Marston's philosophy of empowerment through BDSM is the central theme. All in all, it's a better intro to how healthy BDSM should work than a lot of modern books on the subject.
Marston lived in what by all accounts was a very happy and healthy poly relationship with his wife Elizabeth (a very impressive woman in her own right (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Holloway_Marston), who presumably had a lot of input on the character) and his former student Olive Byrne; they had four kids and were together for around twenty-something years before William died in 1947, and Elizabeth and Olive stayed together for another forty years after that, until Olive's death.
Olive, BTW, was a tall athletic woman with dark hair who wore silver bracelets a lot. ;-)
