I had no idea that "fuckwit" was a fairly uncommon epithet in US English. I just thought of it being one of those universal descriptors. And a very handy one, at that. :-)

Pretty common in my circles. (Both the fuckwits and the epithet. :-)

Oh, indeed. I would classify it like my saying "bite me" and the English saying "no worries" - not part of our default vocab, but a very handy importation. :-)

It doesn't strike me as odd, but then again, I have enough exposure to non-US versions of English that I don't think I'm a good judge of that.

Yep, as I mentioned to Serene above, we can certainly import new terms if our exposure is wide enough - "bite me" (a real Americanism) is an occasional part of my vocab now, but I didn't hear it actually used until the late 90s. :-)
