Work stuff

I've spent the last couple days working on a technical problem, and the satisfaction I've had in finally sorting it far far far outweighs any enjoyment I've ever gotten out doing my actual job. I don't find solving the issues that come up in supervisory work at all interesting, challenging (except in the negatively-challenging I have no idea how to tackle this sense) or even faintly satisfying.

On the other hand, purely technical work was boring me a couple of years back.

Perhaps if this job was more like a traditional team-leader role than junior management ... It's hard to say, but these recent events have been food for thought.

You said recently that you've been missing that part of your work. Whilst I bet you are a fantastic manager, it doesn't sound like that's something that brings you satisfaction!! Time for change???

There must be other options though...chef? Fireman? (oh that comes with a uniform... ;)

Is there any chance of a position that offers you the opportunity to do both from time to time? It sounds like it *might* just be a matter of getting bored when facing the same sort of challenges all the time.

Not where I am now - it's really not what I consider a real team-leader role, which should encompass some techie work.

As for boredom with this job, that's not quite the case - it's deeply unsatisfying and I don't think it suits my skills, such as they are. I frankly get more satisfaction out of cleaning my bathroom, which kind of sucks.
