Jesus fucking christ.

No, really. Jesus fucking christ.

If anyone can sit through that movie and be unaffected, there is something seriously wrong with them.

I thought it'd be not too far away from yer usual Hollywood treatment - following the Heroes through their last hours, noble speeches, cloying sentimentality, heavy-handed politics, yadda yadda. There was none of that. None at all. No speeches, no heroes, no cheesy dramatics. In short, restraint. Not that the subject matter wasn't shocking in itself.

For me, it was after lunch at work when we learned what was going on. One of the guys in the next office was looking at the Beeb website and saw the news come in. We promptly fired up CNN (which was amazingly quick - one advantage of working at a university on the London MAN), just in time to see the next plane hit the other tower.

If you saw it live, you know exactly what you felt then - this movie's impact is an order of magnitude higher.

And it's a good time of year to go see it, if it's still on where you are.

I remember that day quite well enough. A member of my extended polyweb was killed when one of the towers collapsed, and that caused ripples of consequence that affected me for quite a long time thereafter. I have no intention of seeing any movie re-enactments of that day. Not for a long long time.

No, certainly not. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone at all unless they're feeling fairly robust. I was pretty shattered - I don't have any personal involvement, and I was in a happy mood going in. :-/

I wasn't planning to see that one, but maybe I should. I had the same expectations as you, but you've managed to make me think again. Thanks.

I'll think about it later; I don't feel like spending too much time on this subject while in-flight...[1]
[1] yeah - in-flight IP. It's cool

It's an utterly compelling movie, and I thoroughly recommend it. It's pretty harrowing, tho', so not for a light evening's entertainment.

And most certainly not if you're flying!! Since I work in the aviation industry, I found the portrayal of that side extremely realistic - knowing how air traffic control works has made me feel a lot more secure in the air. But reflecting on one's vulnerability while flying is best reserved for selected moments. :-)

Heh. I'm awfully rational, though, and quite a bit cynical. But sometimes things do get to me. This might be one of them. It will definitely go on the shortlist.
